Originally from the Detroit, Michigan area, Emily Velazquez moved to Chicago to begin her studies for a Master's in Public Policy at Loyola University Chicago in the Fall of 2016. At the same time she started at CALA as a long term volunteer. She helped with development and fundraising tasks for almost a year before transitioning to her current role on staff as the Administrative Assistant of Operations. She now aides in all operational tasks as well as oversees all operational volunteers and interns that come through CALA.
Prior to coming to Chicago, Emily obtained her Bachelors of Arts from Capital University in Political Science with Honors. She then went on to spend a year volunteering in Guatemala City, Guatemala at an orphanage/board school working in the administration office. Currently, she is finishing up her graduate studies and will receive her MPP in the Spring of 2018.
