Luis Alberto Polanco Rodriguez is a third-year law student at Chicago-Kent College of Law. He is very excited to be joining CALA as a law clerk. Luis has a long history with CALA. During his first-year of law school, he worked with CALA as a legal intern, specifically with Centro de Trabajadores Unidos (CTU) in the southeast side of Chicago.
Before starting law school, Luis worked as a social compliance auditor at Underwriters Laboratories (UL). As an auditor, he audited manufacturing facilities in North America, South America, Central America, and the Caribbean against each respective countries’ labor and employment laws. Luis is very committed to helping workers understand their rights. Luis is also very knowledgeable in analyzing OSHA and wage and hour regulations.
Throughout law school, Luis continued to work for UL but as an independent contract auditor. Because that position required a lot of travel, Luis visited over 35 U.S. States and nine countries in less than 2 years. During his second-year in law school, Luis extern for the Honorable Chief Judge Ruben Castillo at the U.S. Northern District Court of Illinois. Apart from working with UL, Luis is also the Editor-in-Chief of Chicago-Kent’s highly-acclaimed Journal of Intellectual Property, where he manages a team of over 30 editors. Although Luis has a personal interest in trade secrets and trademark law, Luis’ professional interest are in employment and public interest law.
In Luis’ spare time, he likes to spend time with his family, watch UFC and boxing fights, and travel. Luis is a first-generation law student and fluent in Spanish. He was born in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, on a Monday (his favorite day of the week). Interesting fact: Luis is a preacher’s son.
